Plenty of Opportunities


Payne Road State School students are well represented in a variety of programs held as part of our membership in the Mount Coot-tha Cluster:

  • Mount Coot-tha Young Writers
  • Environmental Leaders Workshop
  • Optiminds and Mathematics Tournament
  • Bright Sparks (Media Night)
  • Arts and Mathematics Academic Extension - The Gap State High School


Environment Club (yr3-6) runs every Thursday in 2nd break. Students meet at the Environment Gardens with their gloves ready to learn and work around the school. Environment Club is run by our Sustainability Officer and there are special Environment Club events that take place during the year

Drama Club (yr3-6) takes place on Mondays in 2nd break. No auditions are required, just turn up, however be serious about it, you will be performing at Assembly’s. Drama Club is run by an experienced Teacher in this field.
PRSS has a large Music Program. We have a Junior and Senior Choir, Y6 Vocal Group, Band and Strings conducted by our specialist Band, Strings and Music Teachers. All groups perform regularly at Assembly’s, Concerts and Camps during the year.
Payne Road children get plenty of opportunities to perform in larger bands and groups through our involvement in the Mount Coot-tha cluster and GRIPPS (Gap Regional Instrumental Primary Performers School)

RI is offered to those that opt in and is offered during the week for Years 2 to 6.
PRSS has a Chaplain two days a week to provide a listening ear and a caring presence for our kids.
SWIMMING- All year levels do a term of swimming lessons every year.
STUDENT COUNCIL- One student rep from each class (yr 3 to 6)
PAYNE ROADIES- Two from year 5 and year 6
ECO AMBASSADORS- Two from year 5 and year 6
